ELECTIONS: REACHING THE CRITICAL MASS With everyone
now concentrating on the war and the economy as the great issues of this November election, the defining issue that will challenge the very foundation of our democracy is slipping away. In truth when we put the enormity of this issue into historical perspective it becomes a defining moment for our nation.
We have reached the crossroads where we have two choices. We will either protect the source of all liberties, The Constitution of the United States of America and The Bill of Rights, whose survival is now on the table, or we will be a nation whose sacred documents of liberty will be usurped by the forces of tyranny from within. The present imbalance between the secular and religious that our Constitution balances and defines, is now reaching critical mass. Liberty is at stake. The enormity of this issue is no less than that of slavery, which turned into
the defining factor as the cause for our own Civil War.
For the safety of our country against attacks of terror from within and abroad, the resolve and forthrightness of this Republican administration has no equal in protecting us against the evil nations of tyranny who fear democracy and freedom for their own people. Therefore the Bush presidency is absolutely essential if we are to survive. We would have no chance under a Democratic White House during this turbulent time.
Therefore, since I feel that Mr. Bush's leadership in unrivaled in our present War on Terror, I write the following statement with deep distress. To grant a majority in the Senate to his party, that would guarantee him the full power in gaining approval of his nomination of judges that would usurp the fundamental principles of our Constitution, the very principle that is the foundation of our liberties, must be stopped at all costs.
The official 2002 platform of the Texas Republican party states:
"Our Party pledges to do everything within its power to restore the original intent of the First Amendment of the United States and dispel the myth of the separation of Church and State."
So, as a Republican, it is very disconcerting for me to say that a Democratic majority in the Senate is critical for the upcoming November elections. Otherwise, we would be taking the first permanent step to turning our country into a nation bounded by tyranny not unlike the enemies of democracy we are now
facing. This must never be permitted to happen.
In this case we must remember the president of the Untied States is sworn to protect and defend the Constitution of the United States of America against all enemies, foreign and domestic. That is why it is absolutely essential to maintain a Democratic majority in the senate that will continue to block judicial nominations until this administration understands the danger of it's
own threat to the very survival of the Constitution and the hazards of the implementation of tyranny at home.
