Iraq: A Tyranny's
By Stanley Zir
What is the origin of the Iraqi conflict? Is it biblical? Cultural? Is it oil? The European Union bobs up and down on the waves of indecision. Some NATO allies retreat as the nations of tyranny and terror advance. Peace demonstrators hold hands with dictators, joining them to accuse America of causing the poverty and terror born of tyranny's bosom. Reporters madly dash around the globe trying to find significance in every event.
It is time to put a cap on this hysteria. This conflict points directly to the dawn of liberty's rising where the tide that launched our odyssey of freedom is now coming in. In our own War of Independence the fatal bullet against the advancement of tyranny was originally fired and through our victory both sides were liberated. Being at cross-purposes with each other, liberty and tyranny could never co-exist. One system sustains freedom and an open market of ideas, and the other, submission and persecution. One achieves peace and unity through a constitutional balance of power, while the other accomplishes a mockery of these virtues through the absolute subjugation of individuals to the will of the ruler.
Only one force would survive and inevitably the history of people's suffering under tyranny would come to an abrupt halt. With the attack on our country on September 11th, that moment had arrived. The line separating these two opposing forces had completely vanished. A critical mass had been reached. The past, when our founding fathers pledged to make eternal war against tyranny, had merged with the present. The connection to our present conflict with Iraq and her impending defeat is clarified through liberty's grand design. This is Iraq's date with destiny.
The recent resolutions of unity issued by Arab ministers in opposing America's war with Iraq are only a political charade to save face among the Arab populations. But in reality this is a portent of things to come and shows that this conflict with Iraq is only the tip of the iceberg.
In the last century, Germany, Japan and later the Soviet Union were fully exposed with their failure in their war on democracy. For all practical purposes today's remaining secular tyrannies are doomed as well. But only half the battle has been won.
The conglomeration of nations of religious tyranny that loomed ominously on the horizon after the attacks on September 11th exhibited that a greater plague of oppression was about to appear that would chain humanity's soul to misery: quasi-secular nations with the loyalty of their populations governed by religious allegiance.
The Puritan's encounter with religious persecution provides us with the missing link needed to understand the solution to the conflict that America is now facing.
What happened to the Puritans and their choice to settle in America set in motion a wave of determination so great it not only became the driving force for the development and character of American society but it also became the impetus for spreading human rights and democracy worldwide.
The Church of England tried to persecute them for their personal spiritual beliefs, their private domain, the seat of life where all people inquire about their own existence. This triggered a chain reaction that released the flow of individual rights that saturated the American psyche and that would be the moving force that shaped our history.
Now the seed was planted and from that time on, the given right of the individual to stand up and defend himself against any force or system that would subdue his rights was set in motion. This phenomenon where noble ideals continue to rise up even from the ashes of our own indignities is uniquely American.
The leading factor for the incubation of terror that has infested the sovereign nations of the Middle East has one root cause: the loss of fundamental rights and freedom of choice. This has been sustained through the absence of balance between religious and secular establishments in their ruling governmental institutions.
As a result of this continuous imbalance, in the face of advancing civilizations, we are now facing vast populations who are mistakenly driven to think they must defend their faith from destruction, against the very thing that would liberate them from their oppression and protect the true purpose of faith, not destroy it: freedom and democracy.
With the emergence of nations of religious tyranny in the Mideast now appearing on our radar screens, we are sailing through this last great storm of deception and returning to the original point of departure where the quest for liberty first began. Since that time this glorious dream of freedom has gained such momentum that the force that will release liberty into the world now will trigger the greatest spread of individual rights and finally put an end to all of tyranny's obstructions. The people have every right to secure this world as an eternal sanctuary of liberty, as a shelter from the forces of submission and fear.
America must now stand alone to defend democracy. She gave birth to the documents of freedom. She declared freedom of choice as the passport of liberty to be issued only to those who were willing to defend it, secure it and to keep the world free from fear.
Nations like Germany, France and Belgium that continue to taste the sweet nectar of liberty, secured through the sacrifice of American blood seem to have forgotten to renew their passport. One needs to remind them that fear, self-interest and envy are not the alternatives to justify appeasement to nations of tyranny and terror if one wishes to remain free.
