THE SGI REFERENCE DESK |
Those who were practicing
Nichiren Daishonin's Buddhism with the SGI organization (Soka Gakkai
International, formerly called Nichiren Shoshu of America or NSA) in the 1970's and 1980's learned 2 very important lessons about how to live. The first was attitude: to live vigorously, stand up for truth and justice with hope, courage and confidence. The second was the great mission of the Land of America as the base for the global spread of Nichiren Daishonin's Buddhism so that the
people would be infused with the passion and courage to spread the ideals of dignity, democracy and the people's inalienable rights of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness
throughout the world. With campaigns and conventions based on the spirit of the American Revolution, with parades sporting 1000's of American flags, with a scale model of the Statue of Liberty, tours of the Liberty Bell, with poems by President Ikeda, songs and lectures based on American ideals and democracy, we spent over two decades learning the most essential ingredients
for kosen rufu (world peace) as Americans. Why was all this emphasis placed on American democratic ideals and human rights for so long? What is the lesson that we must learn? Victorious America was written with the determination that we will never abandon this mission.
The major reason for this page is to alert the readership of Victorious America and ultimately the entire SGI to news of an urgent nature. To alert you that we are drifting from this eternal purpose, to ask questions and to make the changes necessary to put us back on track. |

NICHIREN
DAISHONINS BIRTHDAY |
| Why Are We Still Not Celebrating Nichiren Daishonins Birthday?
This is a matter of the most extreme urgency. The major events celebrating the establishment of
the profound religion of True Buddhism have been relegated to a secondary status as local events in our organization and completely disregarded in some areas or given mere lip service in others.
All SGI members should read this and ask these questions.....

MISCONCEPTIONS
OF UNITY AND FAITH |
| July 4th 2001: The 225th Anniversary of the Declaration of Independence
On this day we declare our independence from those who would perpetrate such a devious course to separate us from the intent of the True Buddha by stifling our fundamental right to free expression. As SGI members, we affirm our steadfast practice in protest until Makiguchi's words are honored. For more on
this please go to Misconceptions of Unity and Faith in the Absence of
Accountability.
